Update Velocity Client when logged in to domain

Whenever you update the Velocity Server, the client will be able to detect and do the update.
However, if your client is logged in the domain. You might have notice you do not have administrator right to do the update.
But if you log into the computer (not the domain), you will client will not be able to detect the SQL server.
So the trick is that you have to setup the “Network ID” on the client PC.
Once is set, log in to the domain again.
This time, you got the RIGHT to update it. =)

AutoCAD: Set Default Line Weight

I was editing a drawing that contains 50+ layers.

I notice that these layers default line weight were too thick and is too tedious to change each line weight one by one.

So the command to change to default line weight came useful.
“LWDEFAULT” (without the quote)

Other related command are:
LWEIGHT – Sets the current lineweight, lineweight display options, and lineweight units

And the most common command I use to draw line is “L”, Enter.

Cause & Effect

Cause and effect do not operate somewhere, sometimes, but everywhere, always. This is an invariable law, so that whatever we receive, good or bad, is the result of a definite cause and reaches us either as a penalty or a reward.

Shop drawing?

A shop drawing is a drawing or set of drawings produced by the contractor, supplier, manufacturer, subcontractor, or fabricator.

Shop drawings are typically required for pre-fabricated components. Examples of these include: elevators, structural steel, trusses, pre-cast, windows, appliances, cabinets, air handling units, and millwork.

Calculating the DVR recording capability

In order to calculate the recording capability of Samsung SVR series DVRs.
You need to extract some of the detail below:
Compression: MPEG-4

D1 – PAL (704×576), NTSC (704×480)
So-called “full resolution” for TV specs.

Half D1 (Samsung DVR)- PAL (704×288), NTSC (704×240)

CIF (Common Intermediate Format) – PAL (352×288), NTSC (352×240)
CIF is 1/4th of “full resolution” TV, also called as D1 and is best-known because VideoCD standard uses this resolution.

QCIF – PAL (176×144), NTSC (176×120)
Quarter Common Intermediate Format is a notable phone video format that has a data rate of 30 frames per second with each of those frames containing 144 lines and 176 pixels per line.

Some of the useful links that enable you to calculate are:

Velocity: Add Credential Template (Card Batch Enrollment)

Credential templates are security profiles that enable you to bypass the time-consuming task of creating a new credential from scratch for every enrolled individual.

For example, if you have twenty technicians, all of whom use the same lab doors and require the same permissions, you can create a single lab technician credential template and assign that template to every member of the group, thereby saving you the trouble of filling out the same credential information twenty times.

Note:

It’s always a good idea to create as many credential templates as you think you’ll need before enrolling users. Before creating credential templates, you should first create badge templates, function groups, and doors groups.

To create a new credential template:

1. From the system tree window, expand the Velocity Configuration tree to display the Credential Templates folder.

All currently selected templates appear in the components window.

2. Double click the Add New Template folder.

The Credential Template dialog box appears with the General page displayed.

3. Fill in values as required. Select IDF: 2-Card

4. When you’re finished with the General page, click the Function tab and add values for this. (optional)

5. Click the Limits tab and supply these values. (optional)

6. Click the Options tab and supply these values as required. (optional)

7. When you’re finished, click OK. The new credential template appears in the Credential Templates folder.

Note:

You cannot add information such as a PIN or card stamp number. This must be added on a person-by-person basis within Enrollment Manager.

Convert PDF to DWG in AutoCAD

If you have a pdf that looks like this:

PDF file

before

You can use a this program call PDF2DWG.
Install it and key in the command “PDFIN” in your AutoCAD2010.

PDF2DWG

PDF2DWG

If you have a closer look, it does quite a good job. Only some of the letters is distorted which can be easily fixed.

After

Neat job, except the letters

You can download the converter “PDF2DWG” here. Works with AutoCAD2010.

Photoshop design Name Card

one of my favourite

Photoshop can do a good job if you need to design a name card.

I was designing a name card for my company and did some googling for name card design. There are full of creative design you can copy!

You have to decide the size of the card.
(Some standard is 3.5″ x 2″, I am using 3.45″ x 2.2″)

You may download a free simple PSD template here.

Search for your Lost Key

A Friend of mine recently lost his microsoft office key.
Have you lost your cd key too?

Use this small program to retrieve all the cd key and safe keep them!

AutoCAD drawing Export & Import into Hirsch Velocity Graphic

There seem to be a problem importing large image file into velocity graphic.
So far I only manage to import file around 1mb.

wmf files actually can provide a better quality than jpeg, however, it will went out of scale when import into Velocity.

Files that are too large causes the whole velocity to crash with error 35601.

In AutoCAD,

you have to go under manage plotter > “Add-A-Plotter Wizard” and choose “Independent JPEG Group JFIF (JPEG Compression).pc3” to export your drawing into JPEG.
The higher the resolution you set, the better the quality.
The paper size I choose was “3507 x 4960” pixel, which keeps my drawing at around 1mb.

Go to Velocity,

Import the JPEG file you have just export from AutoCAD. Change the view to “page” the see your big drawing.

From here, you may add and edit objects in Velocity.
